For the Spring Quarter installment of the Diversity and Inclusion Reading Group, please join us on Monday, April 8, 2024, to discuss a study conducted by Professor Goldin and his colleagues on I.R.S. tax audits.

For most taxpayers, few things are as terrifying as an Internal Revenue Service audit, and it would seem that an algorithm would be the solution to ensuring that the right people are audited. However, Professor Jacob Goldin and his fellow researchers found that, despite using such an algorithm, there was a significant disparity in audit rates along racial lines. We will discuss the study with Professor Goldin, as well as the ramifications of the study's findings.
