The Special Collections Research Center (SCRC) at the University of Chicago Library will close for a three-week period in December 2009 to allow for construction work in both our public and collections storage spaces.
SCRC will be closed beginning Monday, December 14, 2009 and will re-open on Monday, January 4, 2010.
Beginning December 14, 2009, construction of the Joe and Rika Mansueto Library will move into the Regenstein Library as the contractor creates a new entrance hallway to Mansueto across the first floor of Regenstein. This work will affect Special Collections access routes, public service areas and staff offices.
This construction project within Regenstein Library will extend to November 2010. Service disruptions may last until the opening of the Mansueto Library in spring 2011.
During this time, Special Collections will sometimes need to reduce its hours and available seating in its reading room. Some collections will not be available during this period. Please see our list of Inaccessible Collections for more information.
Please contact us at any time with questions.
For more information about the Joe and Rika Mansueto Library project, please visit the Mansueto Library’s website: http://mansueto.lib.uchicago.edu/
We will make every effort to support classes using Special Collections material. Please contact us if you are interested in scheduling a class in Special Collections during this time.
During construction we may experience reduced hours and limited seating availability. Additionally, some collections – or parts of collections -- may not be available. It is important to contact us prior to your visit to verify that the material you plan to use is available. We will also provide information on our opening hours and procedures, which will vary depending on the phase of construction.
Additional information will be posted on this page as it becomes available.
