Preservation Exhibit

The John Crerar Library has created an exhibit illustrating the various forms of "life-threatening" damage suffered by books and journals. Dog and bug bites, water damage and various forms of book mutilations, including highlighting, are on display. Examples are meant to educate users about the importance of protecting library material. There are four cases in total - each dealing with a different aspect of preservation and how patrons can help preserve library resources.

"Attack of the Book Eaters"
Cockroaches, mice, silverfish, booklice and other
pests are the focus of this display case.

"Wanted"
The "Wanted" case displays various forms of
book and journal mutilations.

"Throw Money Away?"
No one likes to throw money away, however everytime a book or journal needs to be repaired or replaced
money is being "thrown away".

"First Aid"
The Preservation department comes to the rescue of damaged books and journals, whether it is due to mutilation, carelessness or old age.
