Borrowing University of Chicago Dissertations

The library catalog contains records for University of Chicago dissertations. They are shelved by call number in the library and may be checked out by anyone with University of Chicago Library borrowing privileges.

Those without University of Chicago Library borrowing privileges should contact their own library for assistance with interlibrary loan, database access, or other options that may be available locally. Our Interlibrary Loan Department will lend most University of Chicago Ph.D. dissertations written before 1948 when the library holds a second copy.

The library catalog contains records for University of Chicago dissertations. Search by author or title, using either the Browse or Keyword search option, for a known item. Try an Advanced Keyword search, exploring Keyword and Limit options, to identify dissertations on a particular topic or from a specific school or department. For example, search by Notes+Contents for thesis social service administration. (Please note: The University of Chicago Library catalog is freely available.)

Records for University of Chicago dissertations are also listed in ProQuest Dissertations and Theses, and post-1997 titles are usually available in PDF digital format. Tip: Use 0330 as the School name/code to restrict a search to dissertations from the University of Chicago. (Please note: The ProQuest Dissertations and Theses database is a subscription database, and remote access using NSIT's web proxy is limited to our students, faculty, & staff.)
